Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) Building 6/16 Demolition

Building Demolition
Madison, Wisconsin

Edge Consulting was selected to provide engineering services necessary to demolish a 12,000 sq.ft. 3 story building located at the Mendota Mental Health Institute. The building was originally built between 1921 and 1933. The building is considered to be historic, located within a historic district and in very close proximity to various effigy mounds. Edge worked with project partners to prepare a Historical Mitigation plan, characterize the building for asbestos and lead abatement and develop a restoration plan for the overall project site. This project also required close coordination with the State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO) to formulate an acceptable removal plan. The project is still ongoing today and is currently being re-evaluated for potential renovation.
